Here are the System Requirements for RoboDJ, versions 2.0 and later:

  • Windows XP Service Pack 2, Vista, or Windows 7
  • 500MB or more of RAM
  • 1000 or more MP3, WMA, and/or AAC (M4A) music files, on hard drive, network, and/or USB stick
  • Internet connection for database updates, downloads, and music information searches

That's all there is to it!  These requirements you can use RoboDJ with any old hand-me-down computer you may have.  RoboDJ is also very easy on the CPU time, taking less than 20% CPU in the play state, and about 80% when scanning for new files.

To set up RoboDJ, follow these simple rules:

Load all the music files you can find onto the hard drive, network, or USB memory stick.  Remember that RoboDJ can handle 100,000 songs or more.  The setup and initial scanning of the music files will take time (up to 45 minutes for 40,000 songs), but the actual play is instantaneous, no matter how many songs you have.
  1. Install RoboDJ from the installation file on this website.
  2. Wait.  RoboDJ will automatically create a default playlist based on popular songs of the 3 decades represented by most of the songs on your computer.  For instance, if you collect music from from the 1920s through the 2010s, but you have more songs from the 1970s and almost as much from the 1960s and 1980s, the first default playlist will consist mainly of music from the 1970s followed by music from the 60s and 80s.  This default playlist will automatically play immediately once music scanning has finished.  No need to do anything else!

Other playlists are created automatically, to give you a guide to the kind of playlists that can be created.  You don't need to use any of these playlists, since they are only guides.  You can create an unlimited number of playlists for any special kind of listening, as long as you have songs on your computer that match the criteria you select.
